Focus of the Education cluster

Innovating education systems

Education empowers people to develop knowledge and skills that nurture new ideas and technologies. Education therefore is a catalyst for broader change, and critically important for driving progress towards sustainable development.

Education must benefit from technological innovation to develop resources that improve its effectiveness and efficiency. Access to new technologies can and should provide the education sector with the means to innovate education systems and expand the access to better quality education for all. What matters even more is how innovative technology is used in the classroom by teachers to facilitate and encourage student learning beyond simple knowledge acquisition, and nurture a culture that values learning.

Discover education innovation @ G-STIC

The Education cluster identifies potential solutions for innovating education systems and reviews how these solutions can make substantial contributions to the achievement of the SDGs. With the G-STIC discussions relating to education, we:

  • exchange best practices as to how we can transform learning environments,
  • examine appropriate organisational governance structures within education institutions at all levels of education,
  • explore how to accelerate innovation through new regulation, public procurement, and policy measures.

Obtaining a quality education is the foundation for creating sustainable development. As education builds on itself, it creates a higher capacity to educate others and nurtures a culture that values learning. In addition to improving the quality of life, lifelong access to inclusive and equitable quality education (SDG 4) equips learners of all ages with the skills and values needed to be responsible global citizens.

Education is essential to the success of every single SDG. Without investment in quality education, progress towards achieving the SDGs is bound to come to a standstill.
